Terms of Service

Rules for using the Made in Ethiopia marketplace.

Last updated 14 August 2026

Agreement

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Made in Ethiopia website and marketplace. By creating an account, applying as a vendor, browsing while signed in, or placing an order, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

The marketplace

Made in Ethiopia is a platform that lets customers discover and buy products from verified Ethiopian vendors. We provide the storefront, checkout, account tools, and operational coordination. Unless we expressly say otherwise, individual vendors remain responsible for the accuracy of their listings and for preparing and shipping the products they sell.

Related policies form part of your agreement with us: Privacy Policy, Shipping & Delivery, and Returns & Refunds.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live, if higher) and able to enter a binding contract. You agree to provide accurate registration and checkout information and to keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.

An account is required to complete checkout. We may refuse, suspend, or close accounts that appear fraudulent, abusive, incomplete, or in breach of these Terms.

Customers, vendors, and staff tools

Customers may browse, buy, and manage orders through their account. Prospective sellers may apply to become vendors; approval is not guaranteed. Verified vendors may manage approved listings and fulfill assigned order portions through seller tools we provide. Platform staff use internal tools to review applications, products, and orders. Misuse of any role or attempt to access another role’s areas without authorization is prohibited.

Vendor applications and listings

Vendor applicants must submit truthful business and contact information and any documents we request. We may approve, reject, or ask for more information. Approved vendors must keep listings accurate, fulfill orders they accept, and follow instructions we provide for shipping and status updates.

We may remove listings, pause a vendor, or end a vendor relationship if products, conduct, or fulfillment quality fall short of our standards or these Terms.

Pricing, currency, and taxes

Catalog and vendor pricing are managed in Ethiopian Birr (ETB). Customer-facing prices include the platform’s margin. You may view amounts in other supported display currencies; converted figures are for convenience and may be marked as indicative when rates are outdated.

At checkout, the amount you are charged is calculated on our servers. Depending on delivery method and available payment options, you may be charged in ETB or in another supported settlement currency offered at payment (such as USD). The charge currency and amount shown at payment confirmation are controlling for that transaction.

Prices do not automatically include destination customs duties, import taxes, or broker fees that your country may assess; those remain your responsibility unless we state otherwise at checkout.

Payments

Payments are processed by Chapa, our payment partner. When you choose to pay, you may be redirected to Chapa’s checkout to complete the transaction under Chapa’s terms. We do not store full payment card numbers on Made in Ethiopia servers.

An order is treated as paid only after we receive successful payment confirmation from Chapa (or another payment method we expressly enable). Unpaid or abandoned checkouts may expire. If a payment fails or is reversed, we may cancel or hold the related order.

Orders and fulfillment

Your cart may include products from more than one vendor. After payment, each vendor is responsible for preparing and shipping their own items to the delivery address you provide. Packages from different vendors may arrive separately and on different dates.

Order progress is shown in your account. Status updates reflect fulfillment steps recorded by vendors and our operations team. Carrier reference details collected from vendors are used primarily for internal coordination; your main tracking experience is the order status in your account unless we later enable customer-facing carrier links.

Some products may be offered through special requests or custom quotes. Those follow the price, shipping, and timeline agreed for that request.

Shipping and returns

Delivery methods, timelines, and costs are described in our Shipping & Delivery policy and at checkout. Returns, refunds, and problem resolution are described in our Returns & Refunds policy. Those pages are part of these Terms.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the marketplace lawfully and respectfully. Without limitation, you must not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, data, or systems, or interfere with the service or other users.
  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information in accounts, vendor applications, listings, payments, or support requests.
  • Use the platform to sell or buy illegal goods, infringe others’ rights, or engage in money laundering or other unlawful activity.
  • Scrape, overload, or automate the service in a way that harms availability or security, except for ordinary browser use or tools we expressly allow.
  • Resell platform access or misuse promotional or operational features.

Intellectual property

Made in Ethiopia’s name, branding, site design, and platform software are protected. Vendors retain rights in their own product content but grant us a license to display and promote their listings on the marketplace. You may not copy or reuse platform materials except as allowed by law or with our written permission.

Disclaimers

The marketplace and listings are provided on an “as available” basis. We work to keep the service reliable, but we do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free content, or that every vendor listing will meet your expectations. Product descriptions are provided by vendors and reviewed under our processes; minor differences can still occur.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Made in Ethiopia is a marketplace facilitator and is not the manufacturer of vendor products. Our responsibility for paid orders is as described in these Terms and our Shipping and Returns policies.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Made in Ethiopia and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order through our platform, except where law requires otherwise.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you breached these Terms, pose a security or fraud risk, or if we must do so for legal or operational reasons. Provisions that by nature should survive (including payments owed, intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability limits) continue after termination.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, shall have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your country of residence.

Changes

We may update these Terms as the marketplace evolves. The “Last updated” date on this page will change when we do. If you continue to use the service after changes take effect, you accept the revised Terms. For material changes, we may also provide additional notice where appropriate.
